
When buying house plants whether it is from Lowes, Home Depot or a local garden center there are several things to consider. Many people just pick up a house plant without giving any thought, especially if the cost is low. But think about this, every house plant you purchase can give you years of enjoyment if it is properly inspected before you buy. Take time to choose a perfect house plant. If you hastily buy a house plant, it has the potential of causing devastation to your other house plants. And one rule to always abide by is never buy plants when you are in a hurry, that’s a gardening tip everyone should heed.
Take the time to inspect the leaves on the house plant for pests. Aphids, spider mites and scale will not only wreck havoc on this house plant but on your others as well. And be sure to look under the leaves and at the nodes where many pests thrive. Here is what to look for on your potential house plant:
Aphids appear as small green or black insects, usually found on buds and new growth. These insects suck the juices out of house plants, and also secrete honeydew.
Spider mites are small insects, which appear as small white specks, usually on the undersides of leaves, or on flowers of the house plant. Spider mites will form webbing, like a spider’s web around infected house plants. The spider mites will be visible in the webbing as white specks.
Scale looks like tiny, brown, oval-shaped bumps visible on the house plants leaves and stem. The scale is actually a protective covering which protects the insect. Scales produce honeydew, a clear sticky substance which can be seen on affected house plants.
You may want to search the internet for other gardening tips on how to treat these pests if one happens to infect some of your house plants.
If the house plant seems too big for the container, pass it by, it is likely to be root bound. Remember bigger isn’t necessarily better. I always pull a house plant from it’s container to check the root ball; reputable stores should allow you to do this. If the house plant is already root bound you will have to open your wallet not only for the plant but for potting soil and a new container. Then YOU have to re pot it and hope it will continue to be healthy. If you don’t mind this, then by all means buy the house plant. If you are going to re pot you may want to look at the self watering containers that are available now. These are great for someone that travels and isn’t around everyday to check the soil.
Examine the container of the house plant for cracks. Be sure the container will harmonize with your existing house plants containers. Try to purchase plants by shape and height when using the house plant for groupings in and around your home. Keep the small tag that is attached to the plant in a notebook so you will always have the directions on the plants needs. This is a really good gardening tip!

My house smells like dog pee, what can I do to get rid of the smell?I have a 4 month old puppy that never took on house training too well and he pees in the house a lot on the carpet, my whole house stinks with the smell. How do I get rid of this smell. It's getting to where I don't even want to be in my living room because it stinks so bad.

Just a little upkeep every day. Clean messes as you go don't let them accumulate, wash a load or 2 of clothes daily don't' let them pile up. Keep the dishwasher ready to load keep filling it even if it takes more that a day or 2 then wash when it is full. Swifter the floor daily or every other day about 5 minutes. Vacuum once a week Just do a little something different every day like lightly dusting one day, Change bed linens all at the same time throw them in the wash one day. Just keep it on the steady and enjoy more free time!

I live in the mid-atlantic. In 1988, we bought a townhouse for 92,500. The neighbors had bought theirs the year before for 130K. The prices stayed stagnant, even as other neighborhoods rose, because our townhouses were older. However, as all the land along our highway exit got built out, the value of our townhouses was seen – close to the highway, but surrounded by woods, roomy inside, bigger yards, lots of open space. In 2001, we bought a neighbor's townhouse for 116K and started renting out ours for 850/mo. In 2003, we sold the rental for 175K. In 2005, we sold the house bought for 116 for 325K. People tried to keep those prices going up, and some people bought at 350 – 370. (Lots of those homes were wonderfully remodeled, with the granite and hardwoods and upgraded baths people seek here.) Now, nothing is selling at all. Makes it hard to know what the value of those houses is, then, but around 300K is probably right.
Bottom line – as long as the neighborhood isn't going to hell, isn't majority rental property, isn't near some terrible future development or landfill, then over time the values will go up. There will be temporary stagnations or even drops in value, but the trend is relentlessly upward. You want to get in as soon as you can – as long as you don't buy at the top of the market. How to judge that? It's a guess, but you can make it an educated guess. Best options, if you have skills or money to spare, would be to get a fixer upper. If you can get the worst house in a good neighborhood, you can increase its value even while the market is stagnant. As soon as you can, get a rental property and start reaping those tax rewards.

I'm a big fan of vinegar. It absorbs a lot of odors, especially if they have an accident. Giving a dog regular baths makes a big difference in odor as well. A lot of that dog smell is unwashed dog, probably.
You can make an offer on another house contingent on the sale of your current home, it might be hard because the seller of the other home will loose valuable Marketing Time since they have to take the house off the market. If you try to go this route you might want to provide the seller with proof that your home is currently listed with a Realtor and also provide a CMA that shows that your home is priced to sell.
