Hi!
Ok, I am a seasoned interior designer and know exactly what you are saying. Go to http://www.getdecorating.com and preview all the rooms. When you find a room that has the assets you are looking for, simply save the photo into a desktop file. Continue until you have viewed all rooms that are desirable to you. Go into your design folder (on your desktop) when you are finished and take notes on what items in each room are appropriate for your own style. Masculine styles are often the old world style that includes leathers, etc. When you are designing your rooms in masculine form you will need to add some softness into each room. This will make your rooms more appealing and approachable. In this I mean, adding some chenile pillows to your leather pieces along with some wool or chenile throws to wrap up in when nights turn cold. Add a table runner in a deep pumpkin color and some coordinating dinner plates in an autumn green. There are some really nice black iron candle holders out on the market. Some extend the entire length of a dining table or coffee table. Another thing is to add a few very large potted plants into your decor scheme. This will add life into your spaces. Tall palms and the like are great to add to empty corners. You can add an uplight behind each plant for drama at night. Make sure you repot the plants into desirable containers that go with your particular room. Lamps add great interest to rooms as well. You will find that there are a wide variety in wood or iron to match your rooms. Your wall decor should be kept simple and I would suggest the rod picture hanging kit which holds several sized frames. Some of these are mirrors. I would suggest the wood tones. These rod kits are simple to install, just as simple as a curtain rod. Go solid colors in your bedding. Choose two colors that appeal to you. Use one for the spread and the other for the sheet sets. Go simple. Select an additional comforter to fold at the foot of the bed. This accent comforter should have both colors in it and this will bring your bedroom together nicely. Add a couple of solid throw pillows, an art piece above the bed, lamps and maybe an old antique chair to add interest in one corner along with another tall plant and uplight. I am sure you are getting the picture now. Most of all, have FUN with this!

You need to file a police report today and accuse him of these deeds in writing and force the police to pick him up.

If the guy stole your property and you can prove it, nail him.

In our neighborhood (California) there is a community college with a very nice woodshop, and you can take a 'lab' class there that just gives you time in the shop to work on whatever you'd like. There are even machine shops (metal) where you can rent lathes and mills by the hour. Check around to see if there's something like that there.

Hand tools are not that expensive (well, really good ones are but you don't need really good ones right away). Saws, chisels, planes, etc. Look at flea markets and 'antique' stores, I've bought a lot of tools there very reasonably priced, especially old planes that are still good. It would still be nice to have a table saw, and maybe a router. And an electric drill, of course.

Look at woodworking magazines. They have projects and plans that show you how, for instance, a chest of drawers is built. Or a table. When you get an idea of what pieces go where, you can design them yourself. I was already a CAD user (Computer Aided Drafting) and that really helps. There are also some very good books on woodworking, beginning to advanced, with project ideas, etc. I found a big thick book (500 pages) on the remainders table for like $300 called 'An Enyclopedia of Furniture' and has designs for hundreds of pieces–simpler styles like Shaker, Arts & Crafts, but also fancy stuff that I wouldn't even try (and don't like anyway).

I started small, with boxes. You can make them out of scraps or even discarded pallets. There are lots of ways to put boxes together, so you get practice at joinery, plus they're really useful in various sizes, and if you can't use them you'll have no trouble giving them away. 8^) Besides, lots of furniture is just boxes, like desks, cabinets, etc. A chest of drawer is a big box full of smaller boxes.

I have a few suggestions – go to a craft store that sells scrap booking supplies – buy some scrapbook printed paper to decorate your walls. I wood also suggest you could use doilies for bed spreads, curtains, table cloths –
I think some kind of a porch – made with dowels or craft sticks.
You need to paint the box – Old Victorian houses usually have ornate adornments on the house – Scroll work on the porches – check out Victorian homes on the Internet – you can get a lot of ideas from pictures . Use small pocket mirrors for wall mirrors – also you will need some fire places.
While your picking up your wall coverings (scrape book paper) look in the miniatures section of the store – Joanne's and Michael's are a good place to look – miniature flowers in vases too.

My first real laugh of the day! Thank you, you cheered me up!

It sounds like the best solution is to sit down with your husband and and let him know how upset you are getting about your decorating differences. I would be very careful not to accuse him or yell (he'll shut down and not listen) but just let him know how you feel about it i.e. " I get so upset and sad when you re-arrange furniture I've just arranged in the room" "it really hurts my feelings and makes me feel like…." Maybe a compromise is in order…each agree to have say in decorating a particular room or work together until you're both ok with outcome. It's important to really try and listen to each others point of view.

Good luck.

I am sorry to hear that your father has put you in this situation.
I love animals, but not enough to put them ahead of my family. Roaches are filthy, and can carry germs. The suggestion about the call to CPS is a good one; maybe they can investigate while you are away, so that you can stay out of it.
Also, if roaches are in your apt., then they are in the rest of the building, also. The owner of the building has a responsibility to keep his/her apts. up. Do you have an adult in your life that could take some of this responsibility off of you and call the Health Dept. or CPS? There is help available; you just have to find it. Good luck!! Enjoy your time away; it sounds like you need a vacation!

Honestly, it sounds like he grew up a little spoiled and never had to do things around the house (take that one up with his parents! lol) You're going to have to find a gentle, quiet way to instill a since of pride about his home in him. My husband was kind of the same when he was younger and I blamed it on the fact that we grew up differently. He got paid to mow the lawn or do things, I was just expected to do it. He was looking for a reward and my reward has always been the finished product. I think at some point he realized that I wasn't going to stop until things were done and now he's more into it.

I also learned to do things on my own and there was a little guilt when I was ripping a room apart to paint it while he was on the couch…..

That being said, there are still things that he wont do (or I wont allow him to do) painting is one of them (he's awful at it). I would never ask him to put curtains up (maybe the rod) and he would honestly rather take a bullet in the head than go shopping for "house stuff" with me.

Pick your battles. If he doesn't want to be part of the process (and many men don't) of picking out things for the house, do it yourself. When you need his help, tell him. If he claims he doesn't know how to do something (or you need help too) the internet is a great resource.

My husband is pretty helpful now and we talk about projects before we take them on. Sometimes, if he needs motivation, I'll mention that I'm getting an estimate on getting something done. He's either too cheap or prideful because the thought of another man in the house doing something that he COULD do…..kills him…lol

Good luck :)
