To build a house, repair or remodel, you need home building materials and the right tools. With the material and tools available today, you can get your project done in less time and possibly for less money than you might have thought.

You can download plans from the internet. You can even customize them to suit your own tastes or to make the house of your dreams.

While you are at it, you could start thinking about how you would like your outdoor living area to look. You can do some virtual landscaping, just for fun.

Of course, right now, you need the basics. So, what does it take to build a house?

Lumber, nails, hammers and saws, planes, miter boxes and levels, measuring tapes, rulers and blueprints. Those are some of the basics. Drills, screws, siding, insulation, roofing material, doors and windows are some of the others, all these you can get from a home improvement store near you. But, the first two things that you need are a plan and a list.

Any experienced builder starts with a plan. A list of necessary items is made. A builder will often have many of the necessary tools already. You might have some of them, too. So, you take a look at what you have and then decide what home building materials you need. That’s part of the plan.

Another part of your plan is the budget. You will want to try to get an idea of how much all of this is going to cost. Depending on your experience, your estimate might not be exact. Even the most experienced builders come in “over budget”, sometimes.

You might be tempted to cut corners, if you have a tight budget, but you will save money in the long run by buying higher quality, more energy efficient materials. Skipping luxury items like more expensive tile or designer flooring is okay. But, your basic home building materials should be of the quality necessary to do the job.

Think about the future. If you buy a lower quality grade of lumber, you may need to replace it more often. It might not be resistant to insects or mold. Something like that could cause you a lot of problems and cost you a lot of money in the future.

Functionality is what is most important here. So, when you are comparing the material available and creating your budget, focus on the functional aspects. That way, you will get home building materials that last.

Home Improvement store, Lowe’s is scheduled to open and make a grand opening in San Antonio, Texas. The 117000 square foot facility created 175 new jobs and represents an investment of over $18.5 million dollars. This will be the tenth Lowe’s store in San Antonio and is set to open on September 6. Lowe’s is the second-largest home improvement store and currently houses 130 in Texas.
Help answer the question about home improvement store
I work in a home improvement store as a cashier, I need a really good pair of shoes . Any suggestions?
I have tried Dr. Scholes and not been impressed. I really need some good shoes as I'm on my feet all day and the floors are concrete. We have mats to stand on but they really dont help much, besides, we are all over the store helping customers and not allowed to just stand at the register. Anybody with a good suggestion? If you know anything about New Balance, please let me know. I've also heard the Nike Airs are good.
Thank you

Tackling home-improvement projects that need to be done can be both exciting and rewarding. But going at it the wrong way can be a big disappointment and a source of a lot of stress. The best success is had when you plan ahead well and you pick the right time for doing the project. Here are some very important do it yourself home improvement tips to help every project be a success.

1. Almost any interior home-improvement project is going to make a mess, and that means that your home will be in disarray while the project is going on. For many, this is the most frustrating part of the entire project. So if you know that a particular room or area of the house is going to need some repairs, why not plan in advance and try to accomplish as much as you can in that area at one time?

If you don’t want dirt and debris flying all over your furniture in that area you will need to prepare your home in advance, usually by covering them with bedsheets or plastic sheeting. So it’s much easier to do this in one entire section of the house at a time, instead of having to recover everything over and over again.

2. Even if you plan on doing all the work yourself, it’s always a good idea to have the phone numbers of local professionals available in case you run into a major problem. When remodeling, there is just no telling what kind of problems you may encounter. Some of it you may be able to handle on your own, and some you may not. Butt having the phone numbers of experts in that field handy can keep the project moving forward even when difficult situations are encountered.

3. If you have a family, keep in mind that small children and power tools just don’t mix. Of course, they will probably want to be with you and maybe even join in and help you. But for safety’s sake, be sure to keep them completely away from any power tools or equipment that could cause harm.

4. It doesn’t matter what project you get involved in, or how organized you are in planning it, you are always going to find something that you need right away in order to finish. It’s just Murphy’s Law. So try not to start any major remodeling projects at a time when supply stores and tool rental shops are not open. When you need something for the project, and you definitely will, it’s a real relief to be able to just run down and get it right away without causing much work delay.

5. If you have to work around any of the home appliances or electrical and plumbing, be sure that you know for certain where and how to turn off all of the water, gas and electricity services to your home. If an emergency situation arises, you don’t want to have to find the shutoffs at the last minute.

Although improving your home can be a lot of fun, you need to be smart about how you do it as well. Following the tips given above should at least help you get your home improvement projects off to the right start.

To drill a hole in bathroom tile, use a very sharp masonry bit, a block of wood with a pre-drilled hole for support and a spray bottle to keep the bit and the tile cool, which prevents cracking and splintering.

Nothing can change the appearance of a room quicker and easier than painting the walls and trim. It’s also one of the least expensive home improvement projects that you can undertake, especially for the impact that it creates. So here are the steps that you need to go through to prepare a room for painting.

First of all get everything that you can out of the room. The less furniture and decorative items that you have to work around, the better. After you have done that take off the electrical faceplates and heating register covers. They are usually only held on by a couple of screws anyway, so it shouldn’t be difficult to take them off. Also remove all knobs and handles that could be in close proximity to the paint. Then mask off all of the switches and receptacles in the room, and cover all the heavy furniture that is left in the room with dropcloths or bedsheets.

It’s a good idea to protect the floor by running a 2 in. piece of masking tape around the edge of the entire room and then bringing your dropcloths right up to the edge of the tape.

Now is the time to remove old wallpaper if necessary, as its usually not the best idea to paint over wallpaper instead. Very often wallpaper will begin to curl a way from the wall eventually and can run your beautiful paint job.

At this point you will need to remove any paint that is chipping or peeling by scraping or sanding it off. The most important thing to keep in mind at this point is to only remove the old paint and not part of the surface itself. If the previous surface was glossy, then be sure to rough it up with some sandpaper before applying the paint.

After you are finished with scraping and sanding the walls and trim, now is the time to make sure that all the painted surfaces are clean, by washing them down with a phosphate free degreaser or cleanser. If there are mildewed areas, include some chlorine bleach in your solution to help kill the mildew. After this, let everything dry out for the next 24 hours or so.

While the room is drying, you can be masking off any areas that need to be protected. For instance, masking off the doorway if it will be a different color from the wall. If you are using a brush for painting, the kind of masking tape that you choose can be important. Most home improvement stores sell what is called “painters tape” that prevents paint from seeping through to the surface underneath and yet is still easy to remove.

Once all of this is done, you can get started with your paint job. The best way to start is to cut in all of the edges of the room first. This usually means using a brush to paint the first 3 or 4 inches in from all edges of the walls. Once you have the wall outlined with the new paint color, you can then use a roller to finish off the wall easily and quickly.

Painting your own walls and trim is a simple home improvement task if you approach it in an organized way. It’s also well within the reach of almost all homeowners to be able to turn out an excellent, high-quality paint job. So why not pick a wall and get started right away?

I bought a $4 light diffusion panel at a local home improvement store and used it to replace the plexiglass in one of my Colorstrip Minis. It was pretty easy to do, and the result was a much wider wash with better color blending. Give it a try. I recommend going with the more expensive panel though, my cheap stuff was a little on the brittle side.
Help answer the question about home improvement store
sears home improvement in store marketer makes up to $45?
i was looking at this job and the description said a sear in store marketer make $45 per lead.
Ceramic tile is a great addition to almost any home, and is very versatile, as it can be used both as a wallcovering and on the floor. Ceramic tile also comes in an incredible array of sizes, styles, and colors to fit the needs of almost anyone.

The first thing to note about ceramic tiles is that they come in two varieties, glazed or unglazed. Glazed tiles are easy to recognize because they have a gloss finish which makes them nonporous. On the other hand, unglazed tiles look more natural, but they are susceptible to water and also harder to clean.

Both glazed and unglazed tiles are well represented in most home improvement stores. In fact, you should have no trouble finding a compatible style and color to match your home decor very easily. Of course, the single colors and more basic color designs will be the least expensive, and the more elaborate designs will command higher prices.

Ceramic tiles also come in all manner of sizes and shapes, but perhaps the most popular size is 4 1/4 inches square. This kind of tile is most often used on bathroom and kitchen walls for backsplashes. However, there are plenty of other sizes available including the larger 12 in. and 18 in. square tiles that often find their way to the floor of a beautiful entryway.

There are also specialty tiles that can be used, including bullnose tiles that have one edge finished in a curve, cap tiles that are used as edging along a tiled wall, and cove tiles for along the base of a tiled wall. As a general rule, smaller tile sizes lend themselves to be used in smaller areas and are easier to fit around corners, while larger tiles tend to present a less cluttered look.

If you need to estimate the number of tiles that you’re going to need for a particular project, simply measure the total square footage of the area to be covered by multiplying length times width. Once you have that figure you should be able to figure out how many boxes of tiles will be needed by just looking on each box at the store. Usually the manufacturer lists how much square footage will be covered by a particular box of tile right on the outside.

It’s not a bad idea to get some extra tile boxes for several reasons. One is that if you have not worked with installing ceramic tile very much in the past, you can plan on a certain amount of learning curve that has to take place. And that will mean that some tiles will be wasted, perhaps even quite a few. Don’t let that discourage you, but adding on an extra 15% to 20% of tile coverage can be a smart move. Also, if any tiles get damaged or need repair in the future, you have them on hand to be able to accomplish the job right away.

Ceramic tile makes a very impressive and beautiful appearance when used properly, and it is also well within the reach of most homeowners to be able to install on their own. To get started, why not look for a small space in your home where you would like to put some ceramic tile and give it a try?

I made my own disc golf basket for my backyard so I can practice putting. As you will see, I need the practice! I have a 2″ PVC pipe into the ground 2 feet. Then using plumbing materials attached my oil pan for a basket and then cut strips of chain together and hung from wooden top. We’ll see how long it lasts before it breaks since its only hollow PVC. The main cost was the chain which I found at a home improvement store closing sale for $30. All around, the materials cost me $50.
Help answer the question about home improvement store
Is it true that the Suncoast Resort sold their property to a home improvement store recently?
